State Board of Education Strips St Louis School District of Accreditation
The state takeover, subsequent transitional board power (approved by the board last month), and loss of accreditation is scheduled to take place on June 15th. In the meantime, an appeal of the decision will be filed. The State Board of Education also nominated Rick Sullivan, a construction firm executive, to head the three-person transitional board. Sullivan was recommended by Governor Matt Blunt. He must be confirmed by the Senate Education Committee before formally taking over this position. AFT strongly opposes this action that will disenfranchise voters and turn over the school district to a non-educator.
